Francis Freeman, code-named Ajax, was a highly skilled mercenary who worked mostly for HYDRA, acting as one of their enforcers at various research labs. As a reward for his service and further service to the organization, HYDRA enhanced Francis by giving him a mix of the Centipede Serum and cybernetic implants courtesy of Cybertek. As time went by, Francis was known to have dealt with dozens of HYDRA's projects, including one involving immortal Super-Soldiers. This project's most viable test subject was Wade Wilson, who disrespected his captors at every turn, namely Francis. This made Francis want to make an example of Wade, and because HYDRA believed that had what they needed to create more of Wade's kind, they gave Francis permission to kill Wade. Just when Francis was about to initiate the process that would presumably kill Wade, Wade proved more than able to withstand it, and when Wade had an opportunity, he stole a pistol from one of the guards and shot Francis in the head, supposedly killing him.
After this encounter, Francis's body survived, but his mind was greatly lost. To compensate for this loss, HYDRA implanted several more cybernetic implants, mostly in the brain. Upon recovering, what was Francis Freeman was no more, what he became was the cybernetic assassin known from that day forth as Ajax.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Super-Strength: As the Attending, Francis possessed enhanced strength (lifting at least one ton), durability.
- Enhanced Reflexes: His reflexes were enhanced giving him an intuitive capacity to better predict opponents' moves.
- Immune to Pain: His nerves were altered to make him immune to all but the most excruciating pain levels.
- Further Enhancements: As Ajax, he was even stronger (Class 10 or higher) and faster, enabling him to create "sonic micro booms" by snapping his fingers, rub his hands together so rapidly that they burst into flame, and literally boil an opponent alive via friction heat.
