The being known only as the Dark-Crawler is an ancient and one of Lord Alveus Hive's original guardians during his revolt against the Kree and subsequent rule over the Earth millennia ago. He was experimentation by Kree scientists, the caveman mutated into a serpentine humanoid capable of generating bio-organic armor plating around his body and obtaining class 100 super-strength. While Hive began gathering up the human followers who would one day begat HYDRA, the Dark-Crawler was given orders to raise an army of soldiers to protect his citadel from any insurgent threats from either the ancestors of the Royal Family or the Brotherhood of the Shield. These followers would eventually be known through legends as the Undying Ones due to their mutation granting them limited invulnerability in addition to their hideous, demonic physical appearances.
At one point, the Power Infinity Stone was stolen from an abandoned Kree vault by the Dark-Crawler and he used it as a power source to fuel his forging of his signature weapon, the Spectre of Shadows, which operated similarily to Ronan the Accuser's Universal Weapon.
