John Garrett aka The Clairvoyant, designated Deathlok Prime, was a high-level SHIELD Agent specialist who was the mentor of Grand Ward and an old colleague of Phil Coulson. In reality, John Garrett was a high-ranking member of HYDRA, the head of the Project Centipede HYDRA cell, and one of the many undercover HYDRA Agents who had infiltrated SHIELD. After being critically wounded during a mission, Garrett became the original test subject in Project Deathlok, a project aimed to create cybernetic super soldiers. As his organs began to fail, John sought to recreate drug GH.325 to keep himself alive, and after being injected he attempted to use the knowledge the drug gave him to take over the world. John Garrett and Project Centipede were ultimately defeated by a group of SHIELD Agents led by Phil Coulson and Nick Fury, and while John was trying to upgrade himself and give himself new armor, he was killed by Coulson.

Thanks to the recreated GH.325 serum, Garrett's body has access to the full capabilities of the Centipede serum, granting him super strength and an unclear power consisting of super-intelligence and/or precognition.
