Jane Foster, also known as Lady Thor the Goddess of Thunder, is a version of Jane Foster from an alternate reality who became the successor of the fallen Thor Odinson and the owner of Mjølnir. Jane Foster was a scientist who found Thor after his banishment while she and her team were studying astronomical anomalies in 2010. She assisted the Asgardian in returning to Asgard, eventually falling in love with him along the way. After years apart Jane tried to move on from Thor, but when he returned in 2013 she began to forgive him. Thor then discovered Jane was exposed to the Reality Stone while searching for him, and brought her back to Asgard to help her. The Reality Stone was removed by Malekith after Jane was moved to Svartalfheim to lead the Dark Elves into a trap which resulted in failure. Thor and Jane returned to Earth to stop Malekith, and afterwards Thor declined the throne of Asgard and decided to stay on Earth to be with Jane.

Years later, the Thor of this reality was killed while fighting alongside the Avengers, and Mjølnir was left unattended for a time at the site of Thor’s death. Deeming Jane worthy, the hammer called out to her, and Jane traveled to the hammer’s location with the aid of Heimdall. Once there, Jane picked up Mjølnir, which allowed her to gain the powers of Thor and enhanced her physiology to the level of an Asgardian. Since she had watched Thor use his hammer, Jane slowly learned how to use Mjølnir by example.
