Mutants (Homo Superior) are a species of superhumans who possess the X-Gene genetic trait which allows them to naturally develop superhuman powers, traits, and abilities. The X-Gene usually manifests at puberty, often during times of stress, while in other cases the X-Gene could manifest earlier or later in life. Mutant powers can range from physical to psychic or psionic-based. The X-Gene can also affect physical traits and characteristics. Any such attributes are not always controlled by the Mutant in question, as some cannot control their powers properly or at all. Mutants, despite their Human origins, have many distinctive traits in regards to biology, physiology, and genetics from their evolutionary predecessors. Mutants can have wildly varying biologies depending on the nature of their mutation. Homo Superiors are the evolutionary progeny of the Homo Sapien race, and are generally assumed to be the next stage in Human evolution.
The first Mutants appeared thousands of years ago during ancient time periods, beings that were viewed as deities to the rest of mankind and inspired myths, legends, and even religions. In more modern times, Mutants became a more widespread phenomenon, though Humans at large continued to be ignorant of the Mutants existence until more recent years, when the existence of Mutants became known to the world. Alternatively, the Atomic Era caused an acceleration of the X-Gene, finally making them a species. Among the public, some Humans show fear or hatred towards Mutants due to either their abilities, their appearance, or ignorance, but there are Mutants and Humans who make an effort to achieve equality among both species. Other Mutants feel that Humans will never change and will continue to oppress the Mutants, these Mutants often seek to destroy the Humans so that the Mutants can be the dominant species on Earth.
